He has been involved in the construction and maintenance of the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge as a bridge engineer for more than 35 years.

He was involved in Bridge Committee of the Permanent International Association Road Congress (PIARC) between 2008 and 2024 and has worked on a board member of the International Cable-Stayed Bridge Operators Association (ICSBOA).

He got his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Kyoto University, Japan and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder, USA. He received the Moisseiff Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers in 2003 and the IABMAS SENIOR PRIZE in 2020.
